Let's celebrate dads!
With cake, on Sunday, at Whistlebare Fold.
A quick scan of the work calendar last week reminded us that Father’s day is impending. Amidst the daily hubbub of the shop we often find ourselves vaguely planning a grand social media campaign for such monumental occasions, catching each other in passing to suggest something like …
“We mustn’t forget, it’s the National Milk Chocolate Day on the 28th July, let’s create a post!”
Yet whilst we appreciate that a savvy marketer would likely recommend seizing all of these opportunities to create engaging and witty, hilarious yet informative reels and carousels of dazzling content to lure in the masses, the days inevitably slip by and more often than not, such material doesn’t materialise.
That being said, as shearing continues on the farm this week and the tups are treated to their annual haircut, an experience I’m sure you will agree parallels the most exquisite 5* salon, we circle back to the notion of fatherhood as we send them off into the fields for a summer of rest and recuperation before the arduous breeding season starts again in Autumn.
I visited Whistlebare farm for the first time on Tuesday evening, and I’m struck by the role each animal has to play in the production of our lovely yarns, each tup, ewe, buck, doe, kid and lamb a vital part of the cycle.
I wonder what they’re thinking now - freshly shorn and congregated in their bachelor pad(dock) - gazing out upon the opposite field of gleefully pronging lambs, last year’s effort.
Much like the collective effort to dedicate a day to the fathers out there in the human world, I wonder whether the suggestion of a little extra ‘hedgetime’ would be a treat and a token of thanks to the tups contribution to our small yarn company. After all, they’re a fairly fundamental part of the process.
Whilst some prickly hawthorn may please the lovely animals, I very much doubt that would be a tasty treat for the lovely Dads. Which is why, circling back to my original rambling about social media, we have decided to use Sunday as the perfect excuse to offer a little treat to your fathers.
And what better treat? A slice of cake of course! Bring your Dad down to Whistlebare Fold and enjoy a cosy moment in our Bridge Street bolthole, cup of locally roasted coffee and slab of something delicious in hand. Your Dad’s cake is on us!
So there we have it, a successful effort to celebrate one of the many wonderful days of the calendar year, hurrah! Now all we need to ensure is that we have enough cake!
